Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, why it is used, and the limited circumstances in which another service may receive it. Continued use of Grand Traverse County Criminal History indicates acceptance of these practices.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search box is transmitted to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its response. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the exchange. It is not shared outside our organization unless disclosure is legally required.

Data We Gather Automatically

Routine server logs may capture technical details whenever a page loads:

  • The IP address assigned to your device
  • Which browser you are using and its version
  • Your device type and operating system
  • The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
  • The site that sent you here, if any
  • Timestamps for each page view

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic patterns, including popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers help combine those measurements. A browser can block cookies, though doing so may alter how some features behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
  • Sending your search requests to the right partner service
  • Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
  • Tracking down and fixing technical issues
  • Showing ads that may line up with your interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Grand Traverse County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official sources such as Shared Central Records, the 86th District and 13th Circuit courts, Michigan State Police CJIC, and the Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report, and this resource is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the embedded search tools. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing rules govern information submitted to them. Review the provider’s policy before running a query because this policy does not control that processing.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to Grand Traverse County departments, Michigan agencies, courts, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination’s privacy policy applies. Read that policy before providing personal information.

Advertising companies may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. We do not run those tracking systems.

Who Might See Your Data

Personal data is not sold. Limited information can reach:

  • Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
  • Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
  • Ad networks that place ads on our pages
  • Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security practices protect the data under our control. No internet system is completely secure, so uninterrupted protection or the absence of a breach cannot be guaranteed.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed when properly brought to our attention.

Your Data Rights

Michigan consumer-protection law, including the Michigan Consumer Protection Act, MCL 445.901 et seq., may provide rights based on the facts and a visitor’s location. Requests may include:

  • Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
  • Have us fix information that is wrong
  • Request that we erase your data
  • Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
